What is the best crab to use for Crab dip, and best recipe:)?

I've never made crab dip before, so I'm not sure if it really matters if I use real or fake, fresh or not. I don't want to use canned for sure, or imitation, but I don't really have enough money to buy a whole dungeness crab or king crab legs unless i only need a few, would it be alright to use frozen crab legs or frozen flaked crab? What would be the best option for trying to save money, i have a party to make a lot of food for!:) thank you. also, if you have a good recipe id like to check it out too:)
