How can I make my hair not look scene?

So I cut my hair to look like a style called the Asian mullet, here in America though thats called scene hair. I'm going into high school and am trying not to fall into the category of emo/scene. I am going to get may hair cut so I would like to know how I could get it cut to fix it. It's short on top and long on the bottom and it goes down about two or three inces down my shoulders, I have searched the internet for ideas but I didn't like any of them. If any one could give me ideas on cutting and styling I would really appreciate it:) I know I want layers still and I don't want much length taken off I still want it to go past my soulders, i tease my hair and straighten it so hairstyles involving this would help.
