Intellectual guys virgins by choice or cirstance?

I noticed that a lot of intellectual guys I have come across (not nerds or geeks obsessed with star wars or anime but very educated, philosophical type guys) tell me they are virgins. I have a tendency to ask very personal questions bluntly even when just meeting someone. I never asked them though if they chose to remain a virgin up til that point or if it is just cirstantial. Don't get me wrong I in no way think there is anything wrong with a man choosing to wait for marriage or until he finds his soul mate. I actually find it to be quite unique. But It isn't common. And most of these guys weren't unattractive, and they had great personalities. So I wonder now why they were still virgins. Have you ever met guys like that or are you a guy similar to what I described? What do you think?
